The central element of the school emblem, the letter “M,” signifies the Blessed Virgin Mary, the patroness of our school. Resting upon the foundation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the flame that touches the “M” represents the knowledge and goodness that are acquired through education from God, the source of all wisdom
Just as the lily symbolizes the purity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the lilies encircling the emblem signify that the students of St. Mary’s should become pure white blossoms of knowledge and love, spreading the fragrance of service throughout the land.
God is love, and He is the source of all knowledge. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. True love leads a person to knowledge, and knowledge, in turn, leads to love. The school motto, “Love and Knowledge,” expresses the ideal that education should guide humanity toward these two divine sources.
